Many home-schooling parents view the beginning of ninth grade with something like terror. The details of the high-school curriculum (what is a credit? how many does my student need? in what?), the need for careful record keeping that looks official (transcripts and more), and the looming challenge of college applications make high-school home education seem like a gargantuan task.

HIGH-SCHOOL REQUIREMENTS / 高中要求

Each U.S. state has slightly different requirements for high-school graduation. (For example, as of this writing, Virginia requires three lab sciences, while New Mexico also requires three sciences but only two of them have to have a lab component.)

Definitions / 定义

First, let's define some terms.

Transcript. A transcript is simply a document that shows the subjects, credits, and grades taken by the student each year in grades 9–12. Home educators create their own transcripts.
